Economic
Profile
The Houston Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area,
or PMSA, (defined as the region surrounding Houston including the
Counties of Chambers, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and
Waller) has sustained prolific growth over the past decade, with
a 23 percent population increase between 1990 and 2000. Much of
the growth has occurred in the southwestern and northern sections
of the Houston area with Katy and Tomball being major recipients.
Moreover, the northwestern section of the Houston area has experienced
significant population growth over the past 10 years, particularly
along the US 290 corridor near the Cypress Fairbanks area.
This explosive economic and population growth is forecast to continue
in the Houston PMSA, with another 1.5 million people projected to
move to the area by 2020. This dramatic growth will continue to
occur in the southwestern and northwestern sections of Houston,
placing Waller in the path of Houston’s expansion.
Waller is at an important crossroad, and our community leaders
have developed a strategic plan to enable the city to capture the
economic opportunities that lay ahead of us.
